Yusuf Meherally Centre will be completing 50 years of its existence on May 1, 2011.

To mark the occasion, several ambitious programmes are planned. Among them are:
  • Building of a replica of Bapu Kuti at the Madhu-Pramila Dandavate Sankul, Bandhanwadi, Tara to spread the message of peace and non-violence, greater social and economic equality, shram pratishtha (dignity of labour) and decentralized industrialization.
  • Promotion of khadi as a symbol of alternate development.
  • Generating awareness of the dangers of global warming and initiating appropriate action at the citizens' level, while building pressure on the powers that be.
In this regard, we organised padyatras in a few talukas of Raigad with a view to explaining the idea of the Bapu Kuti and acquainting people with the Centre, its philosophy and its activities. The yatras started on January 30 and ended on February 7, 2010. They converged to the Sankul on February 7, 2010. The Foundation of the Kuti was laid on that day, in a function attended by over a thousand people. A series of lectures on topics sought to be propagated through the Bapu Kuti Project are being organized at a special cottage built through Shramdan (voluntary labour).

More about the programmes for the celebration will be notified on this page. Meanwhile the Centre has set up a Committee with Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari as President.
