The Yusuf Meherally Yuva Biradari, youth wing of the Centre, took up the issue of the injustice to those who were losing land and buildings in the widening of the Mumbai-Goa Highway. The road widening was not opposed, only justice was demanded. And there were two more demands. If a highway passes through a village, there should be a flyover and a cycle track and those who lose land should be given an alternate plot of land.

There were a series of fact finding yatras in Raigad district and there were sessions to explain the various sections of the Act whenever it was found that the authorities had not followed proper procedures or missed structures or land, representations were made. There was agitation, but strictly non-violent. The agitation has succeeded in the sense that people benefited to the extent of crores, but the demand for the flyover and alternate land remains.

On February 9, at a public meeting at the YMC, Tara, 350 people who were present decided to continue the agitation till the demand for alternate land was met. They also felicitated Santosh Thakur, a YMYB leader, who led the agitation.
