Yusuf Meherally Centre (YMC) has taken up the Integrated Tribal Development Programme under the "Tribal Development Fund" of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in ten tribal villages of Myorpur block in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. Altogether, there are 550 tribal families in these 10 villages. The project period is seven years. Phase 1 of the project seeks to cover three villages out of those 10 villages, namely, SupaChua, Lilashikalan and Llashikhurd, which together have 100 tribal families.

July 28, 2015 was an important day for the tribal community of SupaChua, Lilashikalan and Llashikhurd villages, when the YMC inaugurated a plantation programme, known as Wadi, supported under the "Tribal Development Fund" of NABARD. It was inaugurated in a meeting held at Myorpur Sonbhdra U.P, in the presence of Shri A. K. Panda, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Lucknow and other dignitaries and the beneficiaries. Shri A.K. Panda was the chief guest on the occasion.

" Wadi programme" of NABARD aims at reducing the migration of tribal people to urban centers by providing them livelihood in the form of income and basic necessities like fuel wood, timber and cattle fodder. "Wadi" is a Gujarati word that means small orchard which is actually a tree based farming with forestry species. The concept of the programme is to take large scale plantation of fruit-bearing trees such as Mango, Guava, Lemon etc and forestry like Teak and Shisham etc, particularly, in waste land.

The inauguration programme began with observation of two minutes silence as a mark of respect in memory of the departed soul of the late President of India Hon'ble Sri APJ Abdul Kalam. Thereafter, Shri Mukesh Pandey, Program Manger of YMC, who looks after its Wadi Programme there, introduced the YMC to all those who were present in the meeting. He also explained the benefit that would accrue under the integrated development of villages, which is envisaged under the project. Shri Raeesh Ahemad, District Development Manager NABARD said the TDF WADI program had come in for implementation in April 2015 and was well under progress, under the management of YMC and with the close co-operation of the local tribal community. Despite having an acute hot summer this time, they have implemented the program very well, said Shri Raeesh Ahemad. He also encouraged the tribal community that a golden opportunity had come for them and that they should work hard for the full exploitation of the opportunity. Emphasizing on the holistic development of tribal community, Shri R.K Gupta (Regional Manager of Allahabad Grameen UP Bank) said now that the government agencies and Voluntary Agencies had taken joint responsibility to uplift the deprived community, there was a great need of community help by way of active participation to implement the programme successfully. The Chief Guest Shri AK Panda spoke of the efforts of NABARD to bring about positive changes in the life of communities especially tribals through the TDF program. He said the concern of NABARD was to provide sustainable platform for the livelihood of tribals by promoting micro enterprises especially for the women through voluntary agencies and pay equal attention to promote micro enterprises and Wadi development programme.

YMC, in association with the Allahabad Grameen Bank and Jilha Sahkari Bank, has taken up social security schemes of the Atal Pension Yojana and the Pradhanmantri Jivan Bima Yojana, etc. in the area. Many villagers have subscribed to the Prdhanmantri Jeevan Bima Yojana schemes.

The function was also attended by Sri AK Singh, Chief Manager of Jilla Sahkari Bank, Shri Mathura Prasad, Manager of Allahabad Grameen Bank, Shri Kailash Nath, Manager of Jila Sahakari Bank, Shri Ransajeevn Dubey, Director of Manviy Drishti Kor, Ms. Subha Bahan, Secretary of Vanavasi Sewa Ashram. Shri Chandan Shukla who looks after the whole project on behalf of the YMC, gave a vote of thanks.

Plantation: After the meeting, both Sri AK Panda (CGM NABARD) and Smt. Panda planted mango saplings in the specially prepared pits. They were followed by other dignitaries. During the plantation activity, Shri AK Panda discussed the matter of protection of the saplings, emphasising that NABARD have a priority to keep the surviving rate at a maximum. The function ended with refreshments to all the participants.
